At the IMF Board of Executive Directors meeting on Monday, 14 September, the Fund is voting to impose upfront bulk public spending cuts on borrowing countries. Campaigners warn the move will trigger immediate price increases for food, electricity, fuel and essentials. Jenny Ricks, Fight Inequality Alliance General Secretary, says:
"These legacy institutions have one answer to the cost-of-living crisis - to make it worse. They've spent eighty years raising prices, closing clinics, and emptying classrooms, charging the rest of us for a system nobody alive today voted for."
